$29M for new University College of the Fraser Valley’s new Chilliwack campus

 

The Province of British Columbia is investing more than $29 million to purchase 34 hectares of land and build a trades and technology centre for the University College of the Fraser Valley’s new Chilliwack campus as part of B.C.’s first full-service education park.

In addition to investing in land and new buildings, the Province is funding 1,700 new student spaces at UCFV as part of its 25,000-seat expansion plan.

Great new features on Education Planner Website

 

Education Planner has just launched two new features to help you plan your education and career. The first is MyEdPlanner, which allows you to create a personal account where you can save your post-secondary program searches and develop education and budget plans. The second feature is Career Developer, which provides access to hundreds of free web-based resources that can assist with career and education planning.

EducationPlanner.bc.ca provides clear, reliable and detailed information about programs at B.C. post-secondary institutions. The website allows you to compare information about programs without having to visit each institution’s website – at no cost to you! Education Planner has information on admission requirements, tuition fees, start dates and application deadlines. Information in Education Planner is checked by post-secondary institutions for accuracy and updated to make sure it is current. Education Planner is managed by the B.C. Council on Admissions and Transfer.

New Features on ALIS

ALIS now has two new features to assist you. e-Resumé Review Service and ALIS User Guides!

e-Resumé Review Service
The e-Resumé Review Service is a new electronic service that focuses on helping Albertans adjust and tailor their existing resumés for specific positions.

ALIS User Guides
These guides are quick references by topic or audience on the where, what and how to use ALIS. There are guides for career planning, learning, employment, high school educators and parents.

French Second Language Revitalization Program

 

The French Second Language Revitalization Program (FSLRP) seeks to give French as a Second Language instruction in Manitoba new momentum.

Any school or school division wishing to revitalize French Second Language instruction and any not-for-profit organization that has relevant instructional support services to offer may apply for funding.

The new Grant Application Form for 2007-2008 is now available. The deadline for applications is January 31, 2007.

Increased Services and Staff for Students with Disabilities in Newfoundland and Labrador

 

Ten full-time permanent staff specialized in working with students with disabilities have been hired at College of the North Atlantic. In addition, specialized equipment has been purchased such as adaptive technologies for visually-impaired students, and technology and adjustable workstations for students with mobility impairments.

"Government invested $500,000 earlier this year to ensure an improvement in support services for students with disabilities at college campuses across the province," said the Honourable Joan Burke, Minister of Education. "This is an important investment that supports our students as well as the college’s efforts to meet the needs of the entire student body. I am confident the additional personnel and technological resources will have a positive impact on the overall experience and future success of these students."

New Brunswick Education minister promotes New Brunswick education system to China

 

The recent mission to the People's Republic of China was very beneficial in raising the profile of the province, Education Minister Kelly Lamrock has said.

Lamrock led a delegation of educators and government representatives on a nine-day mission from Nov. 17-26.

During the trip the delegation met with a wide range of officials to discuss New Brunswick's public education system and universities; education opportunities for New Brunswick; and identify trade, investment, immigration and cultural opportunities.

Yukon Government Support For Skilled Trades Increases Apprenticeship

 

Government of Yukon investment in training and promotion for skilled trades in the Yukon is making a difference. This financial support, along with the participation of Yukon trade employers, has helped to increase apprenticeship registrations by more than 39 per cent in the territory over the past three years.

In 2006-07, more than $756,000 will be spent for trades apprentice coursework through the Canada-Yukon Skills Development contribution agreement. In addition, the Government of Yukon has allocated over $417,000 through the Community Training Funds for trades and construction related programs above and beyond the trades courses delivered by Yukon College.
